It is with great sadness that we lost a legend, Remy Julienne, on the night of 21st January 2021.
For a huge number of us, as Mini enthusiasts the 1969 film ‘The Italian Job’ was both iconic and has also gained cult status. The film epitomised cool Britannia. The Mini Coopers, in red, white and blue were the stars of the film and with Remy’s stunts have become legendary.
Many people knew Remy was responsible for the Italian Job, but he was actually a veteran of over 1400 films, including many James Bond movies. He choreographed stunt sequences that often-included high-speed chases and often destructive crashes, his stunts were also used for car manufacturers such as Citroen and Renault. Latterly he worked with his sons Michel and Dominique who are also highly skilled stunt drivers and coordinators at the Moteurs… Action! Stunt Show Spectacular at Euro-Disney in Paris.
I was lucky enough to work with Remy when I was building my replica Italian Job Minis, I realised first hand how meticulous and detailed Remy was in all things mechanical. It was a true honour to know him as a friend and I will, along with the Mini and MINI community, miss this legend of the Mini brand.
